My Story: How I Found (and Lost, and Found Again) My Meditation Practice

I started meditating when I was a child — though I didn’t know that’s what I was doing.

The world around me often felt unsafe and unpredictable, so I learned early on that if I closed my eyes and focused inward, I could find a place that felt steady. Safe. Almost good.
While other kids might have had imaginary friends, I had silence — my secret refuge. My secret power.

For years, I used this quiet space as a kind of secret weapon against the chaos. It became the way I survived.

But then, years later, when I took my first formal yoga and meditation training, something unexpected happened:
I started to hate meditating.

Suddenly there were rules, expectations, postures, and performances — “proper” ways to sit, breathe, and be spiritual. What had once been a natural act of self-soothing turned into another system of control. Another way to get it “right.”

It took me years to find my practice again.

No one gave me permission to return to meditation the way I first found it — raw, instinctive, and mine.
So I gave myself permission.

And when I did, everything changed. I began teaching others in the same way — offering just enough wisdom and form to hold them, but always leaving space for them to make it their own.

Because meditation isn’t about getting still.
It’s about getting real.
It’s about finding your way back to yourself — exactly as you are.
